A regular fan just moves warm air around, which is nearly useless inside a tent without windows. An evaporative cooler not only blows air but actually lowers the outgoing air temperature by a few degrees, especially if you add cold water or ice. For hot nights, a cooler gives you way more comfort, even though it costs more than a fan.

Look for models labeled "battery powered" or USB powered; these are almost always evaporative coolers, not compressor units. They consume only 5 to 10 watts, so a single 20,000 mAh power bank may provide several hours of operation depending on fan speed and power bank efficiency. Just don't buy a big compressor "monster"; it will drain any battery within an hour.

It's genuinely useful, but with realistic expectations. It won't cool your whole tent to 20°C (68°F) when it's 35°C (95°F) outside. What it will do is create a fresh zone within about half a meter to a meter, enough for one or two people to sleep comfortably. If you go camping during hot months and suffer from stuffy nights, this device can genuinely change your trip.
